Your Hearing Check-In Survey — What to Expect

What is this survey?

Lace Pro includes a short survey about how your hearing affects your everyday life — at home, with family and friends, on the phone, and in groups. It's a well-established questionnaire called the Revised Hearing Handicap Inventory (RHHI), and it has 18 simple questions.

It isn't a hearing test, and there are no right or wrong answers. It simply asks how things have been going for you.

Why you're being asked

Your hearing test shows how well you hear. This survey shows something different — how hearing affects your daily life. Together they give your hearing care provider a fuller picture, so they can support you better.

Because you'll take it again from time to time, it also helps you and your provider see how things are changing over the weeks and months ahead.

When you'll take it

When you first start. You'll complete the survey once during setup — after the intro video and before you reach the home screen. This first survey is required, so there's no skip button. It gives your provider a starting point.

From time to time after that. After your first survey, you'll be invited to take it again on a regular schedule — usually about once a month, though your provider may set it to once every few months. This is how you and your provider track your progress over time.

How to answer

You'll see one question at a time, with a progress note at the top (for example, "Question 1 of 18"). For each question, tap one of three large buttons:

  • YES
  • SOMETIMES
  • NO

Before the first question, you'll see these instructions:

"The purpose of this scale is to identify the problems your hearing loss may be causing you. Answer YES, SOMETIMES, or NO for each question. Do not skip a question if you avoid a situation because of your hearing problem. If you use a hearing aid, please answer the way you hear without the aid."

Two things worth remembering:

  • If you avoid a situation because of your hearing, still answer the question — don't leave it out.
  • If you wear a hearing aid, answer based on how you hear without it.

The survey is short and usually takes only a few minutes.

Reminders and notifications

When it's time for your next survey, we'll let you know in two ways:

  • A reminder card appears on your home screen.
  • A notification is sent to your phone. Tapping it takes you straight into the survey.

A few things to know:

  • No late-night messages. We won't send notifications between 9 pm and 8 am your local time.
  • Not ready right now? Tap Later. We'll remind you once more about a day afterward. If you still aren't ready, we'll simply wait until your next scheduled check-in.

What happens to your answers

Your responses go to your hearing care provider so they can review them and talk with you about how things are going.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to take the survey? The first survey, during setup, is required so your provider has a starting point. After that, you'll be invited again on a regular schedule set by your provider — and you can tap "Later" if it's not a good time.

Will this diagnose a hearing problem? No. It's not a test or a diagnosis. It just asks how your hearing affects your daily life, and your provider uses your answers to support your care.

What if I wear a hearing aid? Answer based on how you hear without your hearing aid.

One of the questions feels personal — do I have to answer it? Please answer all 18 questions as honestly as you can, even ones about situations you tend to avoid. Your answers help your provider understand the full picture.

Can I go back and change an answer? No, but you will have the opportunity to give updated answers on the next survey.
