Phone Not Receiving OTP on iPhone or Android

You’re trying to sign in or verify your identity but are not receiving the OTP (One-Time Password) via SMS on your iPhone or Android device.

Applies To

  • All users using SMS-based verification

  • iOS and Android mobile devices

Possible Causes

  • SMS blocked by carrier or device settings

  • Do Not Disturb or Focus Mode is enabled

  • Poor mobile signal or airplane mode

  • SMS filtering/spam protection apps

Steps to Resolve

1. Basic Checks

  • Ensure your phone has a strong mobile signal (not Wi-Fi only).

  • Confirm the phone number entered is correct and active.

  • Restart your phone to refresh network connections.

2. Carrier and Device Settings

  • Check if SMS is working by having someone else send you a text.

  • Disable Do Not Disturb, Focus Mode, or Battery Saver.

  • Make sure Airplane Mode is turned off.

  • Remove or disable any third-party SMS filtering/spam apps.

  • Update your OS software to the latest version.

3. iPhone-Specific Tips

  • Go to Settings > Messages > Blocked Contacts and ensure the sender is not blocked.

  • Check Settings > Screen Time > Communication Limits to ensure texts aren’t restricted.

  • Confirm iMessage is not interfering by turning it off temporarily.

  • Check for Potential Spam SMS Messages. This enables you to sort messages from people not on your contact list.
    • Enable Filter Unknown Senders:
      • Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
      • Go to Messages.
      • Scroll down and tap on Message Filtering.
      • Toggle on the Filter Unknown Senders option.
    • Check for Unknown Senders:
      • Open the Messages app on your iPhone.
      • Tap on Filters in the top-left corner.
      • Select Unknown Senders to view messages from numbers not in your contact list.
  •  Reset Network Settings (Last Resort):
    • If other troubleshooting steps fail, consider resetting your network settings in iPhone's settings.

4. Android-Specific Tips

  • Open Messages > Spam & Blocked folder to check if the OTP went there.

  • Ensure Carrier Services and Google Messages are up to date.

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Messages > Permissions, and allow SMS permissions.

  • Clear App Cache: Clear the cache for the default SMS app (e.g., Google Messages). Go to Settings > Apps > Messages > Storage > Clear Cache.
  • Restart Your Phone: A simple restart can often resolve temporary glitches.
  • Reset Network Settings: This can resolve issues with your network configuration. Go to Settings > System > Reset Options > Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth.

5. Request OTP Again

  • Wait at least 60 seconds before requesting a new OTP.

Still Not Working?

If none of the above steps resolve the issue:

  • Contact your mobile service provider and ask if SMS messages from short code 22395 are being blocked or filtered. Let them know you're expecting a One-Time Password (OTP) from this number and need to receive it.
