The Working Memory Exercise is part of the Lace AI Pro auditory training platform, designed to strengthen a patient’s ability to retain and recall auditory information.
What It Trains
Working Memory is the brain’s ability to temporarily hold and manipulate information. In communication, this skill helps people:
- Follow multi-step instructions
- Keep up with fast-paced conversations
- Recall important auditory details (like names, numbers, or places)
How It Works
Each exercise begins with a short real-world scenario—a spoken script lasting 10–20 seconds. Examples include booking a flight, attending a meeting, or ordering at a café. After hearing the script, users answer a series of four questions based on what they just heard. The questions are designed to:
- Test detail retention (e.g., times, dates, names)
- Challenge the user’s ability to hold and manipulate information
- Vary in difficulty and complexity to adapt to user performance
Real-World Scenarios
Scenarios are crafted to simulate everyday listening challenges. Topics include:
- Airport Check-In
- Doctor’s Office
- Grocery Store
- Restaurant
- Office Meeting
...and many more, with variations in each category to keep training engaging.
Adaptive Difficulty
Lace AI Pro uses intelligent scoring to adjust the difficulty of the questions based on user performance. If a user answers consistently correctly, they receive more complex scenarios. If they struggle, the system offers simpler prompts to reinforce core skills.
Progress and Scoring
Users progress through 4 Levels of Working Memory.
Scores contribute to a user's overall LACEWM score, which can be viewed over time under My Progress > Assessments.
Best Practices
- Exercise in a quiet environment
- Focus on the voice during playback
- Complete a few exercises daily to improve retention over time
